How does it work?
- Disabilities including Alzheimer's Disease, elder frailty,
stroke, arthritis, Acquired Brain Injury, and Multiple
Sclerosis, as well as issues of diversity and elder abuse
are addressed.
- An audiotape provides players with an identity they
assume for the duration of the game.
- Each game-board square presents an actual incident that
has happened to someone receiving in-home care.
- The workshop includes discussions that help caregivers
understand how people feel while they cope with their
loss of independence and increased need for support.
- The detailed facilitator's manual included with the
kit allows organizations to provide learning opportunities
in-house.

Is The Caring Game effective?
- It's rated "very good" to "excellent" by 90% of those
surveyed.
- Caregivers say it helps them understand how to improve
their workthat it helps create a better experience
for all parties involved.
- Independence, respect, and self determination are important
to maintain in old age and illness. The Caring Game gives
players a new understanding of how these values play out
in in-home care.
INITIAL SET OF THE CARING GAME SELLS OUT - THE SECOND
PRINTING IS HERE!
The Caring Game is an experiential workshop that uses a
game board format to sensitize participants to the issues,
feelings and concerns of those receiving in-home long-term
care. In 2001 the Ontario Trillium Foundation funded Care
Watch Toronto to produce 250 The Caring Game kits.
We are pleased to report that the first printing was so
popular we sold out! Colleges and universities throughout
the province are now using The Caring Game as a training
tool for students. Also Hospices, seniors’ residences
and other health related associations including the physically
disabled, use The Caring Game as part of the orientation
for their Volunteers. Many facilities employing home care
workers have found the Game to be very beneficial for their
training programs
As a result of our success, we have produced an additional
250 kits. The kits come inclusive with two game boards,
an audiotape of the characters talking about themselves,
a detailed manual for facilitators and handouts. The response
from those who have played The Caring Game is consistently
excellent. Participants say that their awareness and understanding
is enhanced by the experience. We welcome all inquiries.
